Gamethread: White Sox at Royals

Can the South Siders salvage one win against 2018’s 104-loss team?

Third time’s a charm: Ricky’s Boys look to right the ship and steal the sweep and the series finale today behind Lucas Giolito.

If the Chicago White Sox needed someone to step up and turn things around for them against the Kansas City Royals, then they need not look further than Lucas Giolito.

For all of Giolito’s shortcomings and disappointments last season, he always seems to lock it in against the Royals. The righthander sports a career 2.35 ERA against Kansas City and a 3.24 ERA at Kauffman Stadium, which is much better than his MLB-leading 6.13 ERA last season (among qualified pitchers).

On the other side, Jorge López takes the mound for the Royals. The only White Sox player to face López prior to today's contest is Yonder Alonso (.333 AVG, 3 AB), but hopefully that should not prove to be too big of a problem. Over the righty’s seven games in Kansas City last year, he posted a 2-4 record with a 6.35 ERA over 34 innings.
