The infield bench-spot battle is really heating up. José Rondón seemingly had that spot well in hand, based on his positional flexibility and surprising 2018 pop. But along comes Danny Mendick, who has hit spring gangbusters — and with the same surprising pop that Rondón flashed last year. In an otherwise semi-regular game at the Angels today, Rondón hits second and starts at short, while Mendick slots in at sixth, playing third base.
Manny Bañuelos will attempt his second straight hitless start, only this time he’ll try to walk and bean fewer batters. Jimmy Lambert is scheduled for early duty, whether bailing out Bañuelos or getting his regular couple of innings in.
The game starts at 2:10 p.m. CT, and you can catch Angels TV or radio broadcasts via MLB.TV.

This morning, the White Sox designated D.J. Peterson to minor-league camp, location yet determined, while Luis Basabe and Kodi Medeiros both were assigned to Double-A Birmingham.
Basabe is out until later May with a broken hand, while Medeiros needs more time at Double-A for the White Sox to determine whether he can stick in the plans as a starting pitcher.
The Sox are now down to 55 players in camp: 28 pitchers, six catchers, 10 infielders and 11 outfielders.
