Welcome to SB Nation FanPulse, a survey of fans across MLB. Each week, we send 30 polls to plugged-in fans from each team. Chicago White Sox fans, sign up HERE to join FanPulse.
Confidence in the White Sox increased for the third straight week, indicative of a team making a surprise run to first place in April rather than one that just lost a series to the Baltimore Orioles.
To be fair, we aren’t going to issue drug tests for FanPulse voters giving the White Sox a 74% confidence rating, as this week’s poll was conducted before the two losses at Camden.
Fan confidence in the White Sox
Week 1 62%
Week 2 50%
Week 3 52%
Week 4 67%
Week 5 74%
For some perspective, let’s take a look at how the fan base of this weekend’s opponent, the Detroit Tigers, sees their club.
Tigers fan confidence in the franchise
Week 1 84%
Week 2 62%
Week 3 82%
Week 4 70%
Week 5 75%
The White Sox and Tigers, two bad teams, somewhat adrift, with fan bases clinging to hope. It checks out.
Just nine other fan bases across baseball are feeling less confident that White Sox and Tigers fans are in their teams right now.
And in the category of burying the lede, White Sox fan confidence in Ricky Renteria is at a season low. Just five other fan bases (Kansas City Royals, Miami Marlins, New York Mets, New York Yankees, Washington Nationals) feel less confident in their guy as we do in Ricky.
Fan confidence in Ricky Renteria
Week 1 76%
Week 2 86%
Week 3 60%
Week 4 67%
Week 4 57%
The national poll question this week again has a direct White Sox connection (Tim Anderson vs. Brad Keller), asking all fans whether it is ever warranted to hit a batter on purpose. The results are a bit meatheady, but given the somewhat vague wording covering any and all possible scenarios, is satisfying enough.
Where are you on these questions? If you didn’t participate in the FanPulse survey this week, hey man, get with the program, and sign up above or HERE.
All the cool kids are doing it.
