Welcome to SB Nation FanPulse, a survey of fans across MLB. Each week, we send 30 polls to plugged-in fans from each team. Chicago White Sox fans, sign up HERE to join FanPulse.
Not without cause, White Sox fans are a bit uneasy over whether the club will have a strong 2019 draft — even with the No. 3 overall pick.
As for the weekly questions, confidence in the White Sox is back up, nearly to season-best levels.
Fan confidence in the White Sox
Week 1 62%
Week 2 50% (season low to date)
Week 3 52%
Week 4 67%
Week 5 74% (season high to date)
Week 6 62%
Week 7 54%
Week 8 56%
Week 9 69%
White Sox fan confidence in Ricky Renteria drags behind a relatively optimistic feeling about the team in general, although Renteria is polling better.
Fan confidence in Ricky Renteria
Week 1 76%
Week 2 86% (season high to date)
Week 3 60%
Week 4 67%
Week 5 57%
Week 6 53%
Week 7 43% (season low to date)
Week 8 48%
Week 9 59%
The overall trends are interesting. Renteria enjoyed a three-week honeymoon at the beginning of the season, when fans were more optimistic about him than the team itself. After one deadlocked week, the manager has lagged in polling since, by an average of 11% over these past five weeks.
The national poll question this week addressed the preference fans have between drafting higher-ceilinged prep players or surer bets from the college ranks. With no distinction, of course, for rounds or exact picks, fans across baseball opt for the safer route.
