The White Sox (24-29) walked it off on a Yolmer Sánchez single late this afternoon. They are right back at it for the second game of this modified doubleheader after yesterday’s game was suspended.
Rejoice, White Sox fans, as Lucas Giolito will be the starting pitcher against the Royals (18-35). He has reinvented himself this season and is really tapping into his potential. Entering play today, Giolito has a 2.77 ERA, 2.81 FIP, and a 3.82 xFIP. According to Fangraphs, he has been worth 1.8 wins above replacement, which leads the team. Mercy, is it nice to see him playing this well or what?
Brad Keller has the tough task of facing Giolito. Keller, 23, has a 4.43 ERA, 4.55 FIP, and a 5.41 xFIP. One thing that Keller has going for him is his track record against the White Sox. It is a small sample size, but in his two starts against the Sox, he has pitched 12 innings and only allowed two runs on six hits.
Carson Fulmer is player #26 on the roster for the second game of the day.
Congrats to @Carson_Fulmer, who was promoted to the #WhiteSox as their 26th man!
