It was another disappointing loss for the Birmingham Barons, dropping their record for the first-half to 21-33. Pitching was a struggle for the Barons tonight. Starter Kodi Medeiros allowed six earned run, three off of homers. Medeiros has not gotten a win yet this season and with tonight's loss made his record 0-8. Pitcher Luis Martinez replaced Medeiros in the top of the fourth with two outs and collected three earned runs of his own (one of which was a solo shot in the fifth), but he did have four strikeouts for the night.
The Barons scored early in the bottom of the first when Luis Robert hit a triple (continuing his hitting streak to 10 games) and Luis Gonzalez drove him home off of a ground out. The next time Birmingham would get any offense going was in the top of the fifth, on a Nate Nolan RBI double and an RBI single from Robert. Zack Burdi walked three batters in the eighth, allowing two runners to just walk right home.
The Barons had some last minute energy in the top of the ninth with aLuis Robert ground out to score Nolan (who doubled in his at-bat), and back-to-back bombs from Luis Gonzalez and Yermin Mercedes. Birmingham needs some serious work. Hopefully they can redeem themselves in the second half of the season.
Got all of that one!

The Dash couldn’t take two against the Mudcats, losing Game 1, 6-3. Jordan Stephens has returned to Winston-Salem after getting off the Charlotte Knights IL. Stephens struck out the leadoff man, but than allowed a homer on the second Mudcats batter. He only gave up one run and collected four strikeouts for the Dash in two innings.
He was replaced in the third by Zach Lewis, who had a rough night on the mound allowing three earned runs. Lewis had two hit by pitches and left the bases loaded for Luis Ledo in the Top of the sixth; Ledo, sadly, gave up a grand slam to his first batter.
As for the Dash, JJ Muno scored in the bottom of the third off of a Yeyson Yrizarri ground out. Muno had an RBI single in the fourth sending home Zach Remillard. The Dash scored their final run in the bottom of the fifth on a Steele Walker GIDP to bring in Yrizarri. The loss didn’t prevent the Dash from taking charge in the nightcap, however.
Despite the return of Jordan Stephens and seven hits from the offense, Pat McInerney's grand slam propels Carolina to a 6-3 win in game one of Saturday's doubleheader.

The Dash bounced back and defeated the Mudcats in a good battle in game two. Starter Jorgan Cavanerio had a nice outing, only allowing two runs and striking out five batters in 5 2⁄3 innings pitched. The Dash scored their first run in the bottom of the third as Carlos Perez blasted his first home run of the season. Zach Remillard would score a run in the bottom of the fourth off of a Perez ground out.
Craig Dedelow secured the win for Winston-Salem with a three-run homer in the bottom of the sixth. Dedelow has been flashing his power, with eight home runs for the season so far.
The Mudcats would try to come back in the seventh, scoring two runs of of Nin with an RBI double and single, but the Dash held them down and took the series 3-1 against the Mudcats. The Dash are looking pretty good right now.
THAT'S THE BALLGAME!

To make-up from their depressing loss Friday night, the Intimidators had themselves a fun victory over the Hickory Crawdads tonight! Pitching did its job, as Davis Martin had six strikeouts and allowed only two runs in six innings. J.B. Olson replaced Martin and held it down for the K-Town Boys for two innings, giving up no runs. Bennett Sousa came on the mound in the top of the ninth and shut down shop and closing out the win for Kannapolis.
Hickory scored both of their runs in the top of the first, on a sac fly and an RBI single. The Intimidators got on the board in the bottom of the frame after off of a Alex Destino ground out to send home Ian Dawkins to make the score 2-1.
After the Crawdads gave up two hit-by-pitches, Kannapolis tied the game in the bottom of the ninth when Jhoandro Alfaro reached on a fielder’s choice, scoring Ramon Beltre. With one out in the ninth, Travis Moniot came to the plate and hit a sharp line drive double, scoring Amado Nuñez for a walk-off Win for the Intimidators!! Exciting night for K-Town! Let’s hope tonight’s passion and excitement carries on into tomorrow’s ballgame.
