2019 MLB Draft: draft thread (Day 1)

Well, what appeared to be a run-of-the-mill, pick-the-third-guy scenario has been blown wide open by rumors that Baltimore will pass on Adley Rutschman

OK, here’s our spot to discuss Day 1 of the 2019 MLB Draft.

WSM has already done an exhaustive amount of scouting on our behalf, upwards of 75 player profiles in our Draft Prospects You Should Know series. So, that oughta keep you occupied until 5 p.m., or whenever it is that the Baltimore Orioles answer our prayers and draft, say, Andrew Vaughn instead of Adley Rutschman.

Let me make it clear where we stand on this matter:

This year, at least for the first couple of days of the draft, we’re going to have a higher volume of coverage, including individual stories on at least the first 10 picks, rather than some of the consolidation you’ve seen here in the past — even last year. I hope you will appreciate that level of depth and detail, but if not, hey, by the end of the week the draft is over, and we can go back to .500 watch for the big club.

Also note: clicking 2019 MLB Draft on our page (click the link here, or for future reference, where it’s circled in the image below) gets you to all of our draft coverage, with the newest draft stories listed first.

Throughout the day, as rumors and mocks pop up, I’m hoping that between the WSM-DJ-BB draft team here at SSS Central and all of you reading and commenting, we can keep this thread fresh and lively, until, you know, actual picking begins.

FanGraphs 4.0 Mock has Andrew Vaughn heading to the White Sox at three.

As does Jonathan Mayo’s last mock draft.

There seems to be a trend this morning and early afternoon as Baseball America also has Vaughn to the White Sox.

Apparently nobody copyedited MLB.com’s draft logo; the apostrophe is backwards.
