Mesa Solar Sox 7, Glendale Desert Dogs 6
Blake Rutherford (CF) 1-for-5, R, 2 RBI (2), K (.133 BA, .388 OPS)
Vince Arobio (RP, 3rd-4th) 2 IP, H, 2 ER, 2 BB, K, HR, 41 pitches/20 strikes (12.00 ERA)
Tyler Johnson (RP, 5th) IP, 2 BB, 20 pitches/7 strikes (0.00 ERA)
Two teams entered play in Mesa tonight 1-3, only one could escape with a win, and it was not the Desert Dogs.
It didn’t have to be that way; through seven, Glendale was up, 6-2. But Mesa ticked one off in the eighth and then erupted for a crooked four to walk off the game on two bases-loaded walks, a sac fly to tie, and a GWRBI double from Oakland A’s first baseman Alfonso Rivas.
The White Sox on the Desert Dogs did not acquit themselves too well on Sunday. Blake Rutherford had a two-out, two-run single in the fifth, but that’s it. Vince Arobio had another poor outing. And while Tyler Johnson maintained his perfect ERA, it came at the cost of two walks.
Glendale gets a day off tomorrow to recharge the batteries, or something.
