2020 South Side Sox Prospect Vote: Round 20

New, 10 comments

Vote for the 20th-best prospect in the White Sox system!

What a relief: It took 19 picks, but a reliever finally made the cut.
Sean Williams/South Side Sox

Three years in, we finally have our act together enough to kick off our prospect vote so the end doesn’t run into the regular season.

Here’s how 2018 wrangled out — all 42 picks. Also, here’s an archive of every article in the 2018 series. Here’s how 2019 came together, all 50 picks, and the archive as well.

You’ll recall an odd Russian-bot sacking of our vote at some point last year around pick No. 10 or so, and we reduced the number of names on the ballot from 25 to five. Fingers crossed, we’ll put 10 players on the ballot for each round this year. There are some cursory stats attached to help you out in your decision-making, but all the great bio writing from WSM you’re used to seeing here is over at South Side Hit Pen, as we count down the Top 100 White Sox Prospects over there.

By starting our vote here and the Top 100 countdown at SSHP at the same time, by the time the SSHP Top 100 has counted from 100 to 50, this SSS poll vote will have counted down from 1 to 50. We’ll meet in the middle, with the SSS poll vote factoring in the order of our final 50 prospects.

Sound cool? Now, get voting!

Nineteen picks in, and a relief pitcher finally broke the tape! (A bit too late, if you ask this writer.) Tyler Johnson took a resounding 41% (107 of 261 votes) after finishing an identical 19th in the voting last year (18th among our Top 100 Prospects) and 31st in 2018.

Last year’s No. 19 prospect was Jimmy Lambert.

There was quite a battle for the No. 3 spot, with just a single vote separating Codi Heuer from Konnor Pilkington. And there was an absolute logjam downballot, as just one vote separated Yolbert Sánchez from Bernardo Flores Jr., and Flores Jr. from Seby Zavala. Newcomer DJ Gladney ended up in fifth place, with 19 votes.

Also, we have our 2020 Hall of Fame ballot and inaugural Hall of Fame Veteran’s Committee ballot up at South Side Hit Pen, so please take a second to click over and vote for Hall of Fame candidates over there.
