FanPulse: The cheating scandal

Fans weigh in on the punishment, where it ranks all-time, and a shot at redemption

Welcome to SB Nation FanPulse, a survey of fans across MLB. Each week, we send 30 polls to plugged-in fans from each team. Chicago White Sox fans, sign up HERE to join FanPulse.

With the Houston Astros-Boston Red Sox cheating scandal in full focus this week, the FanPulse AI went into alert mode, sending out a survey on Thursday measuring the pulse of what you, the fans, felt about everything that had transpired.

First up, straightfowrward enough:

The Nos have it, at 67%, vs. 33% yes. Two-thirds of fans think Houston got off easy.

Naturally, the White Sox do factor into this series of questions. We’re No. 1! We’re No. 1!

Actual numbers: Black Sox scandal 43%, steroids 28%, Astros 25%, Pete Rose 4%.

Now, the ridiculous notion of vacating a title:

A razor-thin, 51%-49% margin approves of awarding the 2017 World Series to ... thin air.

And finally, there’s the question of whether the principals in the scandal should serve a de facto (official or unofficial) lifetime ban:

We are a forgiving society, thus 62% say yes, hire flaccid middle manager pilot A.J. Hinch, craven and innovative rules-bender Alex Cora, or even hopeful Hall-of-Famer Carlos Beltrán again.

White Sox-specific questions are taking the offseason off, at least in the weekly sense, but here are the results of 2019’s FanPulse polling.

Ricky takes another slip this week. At some point, the trend of fan confidence being significantly lower in the manager than the team at large has to be taken as an indication that most fans don’t feel Renteria is the manager to take the White Sox another step forward.
