Gamethreads: ALDS and NLDS mania, the sequel!

It’s another four-of-a-kind day, with Rays-Yankees the only series that’s knotted up so far

MLB: NLDS-San Diego Padres at Los Angeles Dodgers Tim Heitman-USA TODAY Sports

Good news for the Dodgers: They were no-hit through five innings, yet still came back to win their opener vs. San Diego:

Bad news for the Padres: Mike Clevinger, somewhat of a surprise activation for the NLDS (and seemingly a guy you’d keep in your pocket for a must-game, as he continues to rehab his arm), was knocked out in the second inning of the NLDS opener due to a significant drop in velocity. He will not pitch again in 2020.

Good news for the Rays: They whiffed a record 18 Yankees and held on for a close win to even their ALDS series, 1-1.

Bad news for the Yankees: They lost despite two homers from Giancarlo Stanton, with no help from Gary Sanchez’s framing.

Good news for Atlanta: A comeback win vs. the Marlins.

Good news for the Marlins: Their big controversy is a home run sculpture, not a racially-insensitive war-cry rally chant.

Good news for the Astros: They’re really leaning into the wrestling heel schtick, as if somehow they didn’t voluntarily cheat baseball for the past couple of seasons.

Good news for the A’s: Win or lose — and they’re down in the best-of-five, 2-0 — they don’t have a stain on their legacy that no amount of Tide’s gonna scrub out.

Enjoy the games today, all! Might just be three series left after Wednesday.
