2020 South Side Sox Prospect Vote: Round 31

New, 31 comments

Vote for the 31st-best prospect in the White Sox system!

Well, it wasn’t subtle: But a very late, massive surge pushed The Cannon to the win.
Tiffany Wintz/South Side Sox

Three years in, we finally have our act together enough to kick off our prospect vote so the end doesn’t run into the regular season.

Here’s how 2018 wrangled out — all 42 picks. Also, here’s an archive of every article in the 2018 series. Here’s how 2019 came together, all 50 picks, and the archive as well.

There are some cursory stats attached to help you out in your decision-making, but all the great bio writing from WSM you’re used to seeing here is over at South Side Hit Pen, as we count down the Top 100 White Sox Prospects over there.

By starting our vote here and the Top 100 countdown at SSHP at the same time, by the time the SSHP Top 100 has counted from 100 to 50, this SSS poll vote will have counted down from 1 to 50. We’ll meet in the middle, with the SSS poll vote factoring in the order of our final 50 prospects.

Sound cool? Now, get voting!

Well, early on Monday afternoon I was about to call the poll early, as José Rodriguez has a comfortable lead over James Beard in our 30th round. I returned tonight to find Will Kincanon, with a preposterous 181 votes, crushing his way to a victory. Yes, the same Will Kincanon with 3% of the vote and six total votes just one round ago. Yeesh.

So, OK, this one, like the Andrew Perez vote, was a ballot-stuffer. But Kincanon’s winning margin, however suspicious, still fell under 50%. So, The Cannon advances, with 46% (181 of 396 votes). Last year, Kincanon was our No. 99 prospect.

Kincanon makes it five right-handed relievers among our top 30 prospects.

Last year’s No. 30 prospect was Lenyn Sosa.

Lefty reliever Jacob Lindgren slotted in at No. 9 on his first ballot, getting six votes. After a curious vote like this the next winner is anyone’s guess, but José Rodriguez lines up as the favorite for Round 31.
