On the mound, it is a battle between two pitchers who have not played in the majors yet. Casey Mize will be the starting pitcher tonight for the Tigers. Mize, 23, was the Tigers’ first overall pick in the 2018 draft. Mize has displayed excellent control across the minors. In 109 13 innings across classes A-Advanced and Double-A in 2019, Mize had a 2.55 ERA, 8.7 K/9, and only 1.9 BB/9. According to MLB Pipeline, Mize is the Tigers’ No. 2 prospect, and he is the No. 8 prospect in baseball. As a result, Mize is expected to play a large role in the Tigers’ future.

Starting on the mound for the White Sox will be 25-year-old right-hander Dane Dunning. Dunning last pitched in 2018, but he was shut down in June that year, and he eventually underwent Tommy John surgery. That surgery made Dunning unable to pitch in 2019, but he is finally ready to make his MLB debut after a long wait. In 2018, Dunning pitched 86 13 innings across classes A-Advanced and Double-A. During those innings, Dunning had a 2.71 ERA, 10.4 K/9, and 2.7 BB/9. Per MLB Pipeline, Dunning is the White Sox’s No. 8 prospect. As recently as the preseason of 2019, Dunning was ranked 80th among all prospects.

Here are tonight’s starting lineups:

Earlier this afternoon, the White Sox made the following announcement:

Fortunately, the White Sox had some good injury-related news to announce, as Adam Engel returns from the injured list.

These teams are trending in opposite directions, as the Tigers (9-12) have lost seven consecutive games, while the White Sox (13-11) have won three in a row.

Tonight’s game starts at 7:10 CST. Let’s keep this win streak going.
