Though it was on a lot of White Sox fans’ minds, given Jonathan Stiever was the most exciting active pitcher in the minors in 2019, team brass gave us very little reason to believe he would see time in the bigs in 2020 — truncated season or no.
So it was downright shocking last night to learn that in fact, technically for just a spot start (although the White Sox wouldn’t object to Dane Dunning II I’m sure), Stiever was promoted to the 40-man roster and his service clock started. If that’s not proof of the White Sox beginning the pedal-to-metal phase of the rebuild, not sure what is.
