Although the White Sox lost last night, the teams they needed to lose did, so Chicago’s magic number decreased from two to one. Therefore, a series win against the Twins today propels the South Siders to the 2020 playoffs!
Reynaldo López (1-2, 5.52 ERA) aims to stay on track after his best outing of the season. He pitched five scoreless innings against the Tigers — but before his injured list stint, he only pitched two outs against these same Twins, while giving up four runs. Looking to bounce back from that performance and help his team secure the first playoff spot in the American League. ReyLo should be ready to roll.
Kenta Maeda, however, is having a career year. He is 5-1 with a 2.43 ERA in nine starts this season. He last saw the Sox on July 26, and went five innings, only allowing two runs, including a home run. The Sox sluggers look to put a little blemish on Maeda’s 2020 numbers.
These Sox are ready to have a big offensive day after last night’s sleeper:
Jarrod Dyson — who has hit Maeda well in his career — starts in right field, and he will bat eighth. If the seventh through first hitters can get on base, expect a lot of stolen bags, especially against a pitcher who does not give up very many hits.
Before the game, the White Sox promoted José Ruiz from Schaumburg, and sent Danny Mendick back to the alternate site.
These Twinkies look to split the series:
Nelson Cruz drops to fourth in the order.
This 1:10 p.m. CT game will see the sun shining and hope in the air. NBC Sports Chicago and WGN radio will capture it all for your viewing and listening pleasure.
Let’s go snag a playoff spot for the first time since 2008!
