The slugger was honored with a near-unanimous ballot

Chicago White Sox
Congratulations, Dick. We hope this bodes well for Cooperstown enshrinement soon.

Our second Veterans Committee ballot is in the books, and the sole winner was Chicago White Sox legend Dick Allen, with 86.5% of the vote. Allen nearly met his astronomical 89.3% tally in the preliminary round of this Veterans ballot. In 2020’s final vote (with Minnie Miñoso inducted), Allen earned 58% support.

In a sign of a really strong ballot, no other candidates broke the 75% threshold — but none polled so poorly as to drop off of the Veterans ballot. The closest to induction were Tommy John and Lou Whitaker, at 51.4%. John’s support remained identical to 2020, while Whitaker actually lost support, polling at 58% a year ago. Only Kenny Lofton and Dwight Evans saw an increase in support from 2020.

The full results:

Voters averaged 3.76 selections per ballot — essentially the identical rate as last year — which means nearly everyone made the maximum four selections in this election. Well done!

Congratulations to Dick, and we’ll see you back here for another Veterans Committee vote next year!
