White Sox Minor League Update: November 3, 2021

Yolbert Sánchez has a three-hit day, and the White Sox re-sign Tyler Johnson.

A win for the Glendale Desert Dogs to keep their record better than .500 for another day or two. José Rodríguez was one of the two White Sox hitting prospects to play today, and unfortunately he could not come up with a hit in three tries.

All the hits belonged to Yolbert Sánchez, who was 3-for-3. Sánchez also started in the field, unlike Rodríguez, beginning at second and then moving over to third. Every hit was a single, but Sánchez did drive in two runs as well. He is now hitting .421 with a .995 OPS in his limited time in the AFL this season.

No White Sox pitching prospect got into the game today, so it was a light day for Sox minor leaguers. Hopefully, more will be back in tomorrow.

That does not mean there isn’t other White Sox pitching prospect news, though:

Tyler Johnson has been hurt the past couple of seasons, and then there wasn’t a season in 2020, of course. He used to be a top relief pitching prospect in the system, but has fallen out of favor due to injury and his limited performance in 2021, where he had a 9.56 ERA in 16 innings. That was mostly due to command issues, but he got hit a lot as well, with a WHIP at 2.63, not good at all. Hopefully he gets back to form, as the Sox really need relievers to step up.

On that note, some further pitching housekeeping, last month Charlotte wiped some arms off of the books, releasing Nik Turley, Mike Wright Jr. and Aaron McRae.
