South Side Sox Cryptosoxery #7

Another Sox newbie had something to say

Actually, the newbie said it seven or eight years ago, but it ages well.

We’ll get to this week’s quiz in a moment, but first the answer to last week’s Cryptosoxery, admittedly uttered by a man whose only relationship to the White Sox was to manage against them, though it seems appropriate.

You have to have a catcher because if you don’t you’re likely to have a lot of passed balls. Casey Stengel

Of course, if your catcher is Zack Collins, you’re still going to have a lot of passed balls (often called wild pitches), but Casey once had Yogi Berra backed up by Elston Howard, so his only worry was whether he forgot to put one of them in the lineup.

Which all leads us to this week’s Cryptosoxery, as usual courtesy of the magic encryption machine at wordles.com:

TK’J KPING KP NP KP HOU HGRY WPI FPY’K GOLR OAA WPIU HROZPYJ. — MPYOKGOY AIBUPW

True words from a Sox newbie, though thankfully not (yet) about the 2021 White Sox.

For newcomers to the quiz, cryptoquotes are simple letter substitutions, the same letter representing another all the way through ... the B’s may be F’s, the J’s become R’s, etc. You solve by finding the most common letters, beginning with E and then playing Wheel of Fortune, and by finding common words and letter arrangements.

This week, you’ve got contractions to help, plus the hint that the speaker is a Sox newcomer.

Good luck. The answer, and a new Cryptosoxery, next week.
