Dylan Cease takes the mound against his former team

MLB: Chicago Cubs at Chicago White Sox
Back in business: Dylan Cease will make his 2021 Cactus League debut.
Quinn Harris-USA TODAY Sports

After the White Sox’s 1-0 victory on a home run by Matt Reynolds yesterday, the South Siders are back at it this afternoon. This time, they will face the North Siders at Camelback Ranch. The Cubs enter with a 7-5-2 spring training record, while the White Sox are 3-8-3.

The White Sox have a chance to win three consecutive games for the first time this spring. Dylan Cease, who is set to make his 2021 Cactus League debut, will start on the mound for the White Sox. During the shortened 2020 season, Cease had a decent 4.01 ERA, but it is no secret that he was a beneficiary of some excellent batted-ball luck. With a sky-high 5.2 BB/9 rate and a modest 6.8 K/9 rate, Cease’s 2020 ERA is unsustainable unless he makes noticeable adjustments.

Here are today’s starting lineups:

Yoán Moncada, who is looking for a comeback season, is off to a strong start in Cactus League play (.393 OBP, .810 OPS). Moncada will bat fourth, right between powerhouses José Abreu and Eloy Jiménez.

This game will start at 3:05 p.m. CST, and ESPN 1000 will have the radio coverage. Fans will be able to watch on YouTube and whitesox.com. Facebook is also an option for in-market fans. Welcome to the future.

Let’s get win No. 4.
