This Year’s Biceps? Looks Like it Will NOT Be Reynaldo López

Mercurial righty breaks camp and heads north ... to Schaumburg — a week early

Remember that feel-good video, with White Sox pitching coach pumping up Reynaldo López, complimenting his curveball, Jonathan Lucroy wowed by his up-and-away heat?

That was TWELVE days ago.

And today, in frankly a pretty shocking move with a week left in camp, López was optioned off of the White Sox, to the alternate Schaumburg site.

The 13th spot on the pitching roster is now up for grabs, as it was presumed to be either Jimmy Cordero’s or López’s to lose. Is this good news for Felix Paulino? Will Carter?

Luis González joined López in being optioned. I’m unsure what the distinction between being optioned to the alternate site and the White Sox minicamp; presumably minicamp players can still participate in Cactus League games, alternate site not?

No surprises among the four players (three pitchers) assigned to minicamp, although all four have had highlights this spring and presumably will eventually be a part of alternate site workouts in April and Charlotte Knights games in May.
