South Side Sox Player of the Week: Andrew Vaughn

Our new weekly art feature kicks off with the hottest bat in White Sox camp!

Mitch Ransdell/South Side Sox

Ed. note: This season, artist and writer Mitch Ransdell is going to bring his unique pencil work to the site by doing Player of the Week honors. This inaugural edition features the hottest bat in all of White Sox camp.

Andrew Vaughn had a chance to show the Cactus League his chops this past week, and he didn’t disappoint.

After a stint standing in for José Abreu at first base, Vaughn slipped into the designated hitter position with ease, taking several smart walks and clocking a three-run homer off of Texas Rangers starter Kohei Arihara in last Tuesday’s game.

The White Sox have had a 30-year dynasty of power-hitting first basemen, and Andrew Vaughn could definitely be heir to that throne in another few years. Until then? Give him every chance to knock the cover off the ball. We might already have our new DH.
