Welcome back to Chicago, White Sox! It’s cold here, just like it was in Cleveland. The White Sox are coming off two days of rest and an 8-5 stomp of the Wahoos.
Since the White Sox finally deigned to announce the pitching for the weekend, tonight we’re seeing former Sox pitcher Dane Dunning up against Dylan Cease. Dunning is riding high with a 1-0 record and 0.60 ERA so far this season. He relies on five pitches: primarily the sinker (65.3%) followed by the slider (19.4%), changeup (8.3%), cutter (4.6%) and curveball (2.3%). He’s thrown 216 pitches up until today, with 40 batted balls.
Cease, meanwhile, is looking for his first win and is sitting at a 3.86 ERA. As we all know, Cease relies on four pitches: 4-Seam fastball (51.7%), slider (31.5%), curveball (9.4%), and changeup (7.5%). He’s thrown 267 pitches with 39 batted balls so far this season. We last saw Cease on April 17, when he faced the Red Sox and he continued his streak of going 4 2⁄3.
Anyway, here’s how things are lining up tonight:
José Abreu is a career .316/.357/.539 with seven home runs and 31 RBI in 38 career games against the Rangers.
