South Side Sox Podcast 44 — Tony La Russa and the Unwritten Rules

On the heels of the “play the right way” nonsense, Brett Ballantini is joined by Chrystal O’Keefe, Joe Resis and Anders Johanson for an emergency in-game program

As much as we didn’t want to do this podcast tonight, we had to address the Chicago White Sox manager enforcing “Major League Baseball” “unwritten rules” on his rookie star.

Highlights of our program, almost completely centering on this Tony La Russa/Yermín Mercedes kerfuffle:

  • Why in the world do we have to talk about La Russa’s clown act with the White Sox as the best team in baseball?
  • Is there any aspect of this “controversy” that is acceptable, namely Yermín swinging through a take sign? Brett lets you know what the answer is probably no, as La Russa let another tell leak in his pregame Zoom today
  • Boston runs on Yermín Mercedes when he was pitching earlier in the season and that’s OK ... but swinging the bat during an at-bat isn’t?
  • Welcome Anders Johanson to South Side Sox, and he gets a trial by fire hopping right into this fray — and listen to how spectacularly Brett mispronounces his name, in unique MIDWESTERN fashion!
