After yesterday’s late-night victory, the Chicago White Sox look to ensure the series win in this middle-of-the-afternoon affair against the Detroit Tigers. If they do win, the White Sox will be either the second or third team in all of baseball to 40 wins (barring what happens in the opener of the Giants doubleheader).
Dylan Cease is on the bump today. He’s rocking a 4-2 record and a 3.36 ERA, which is fairly even with his 3.43 xERA (in 12 starts). Cease employs a 4-seam and slider mix, but he uses his curve and change fairly evenly for those tertiary and quaternary pitch selections. Cease is in the top 4% of baseball with his fastball spin rate.
Sharing the mound with Cease, opposing starting pitcher José Ureña is 2-5 this season and has a 4.25 ERA (5.14 xERA) in 11 starts. Similar to Cease, Ureña likes a sinker and slider combination, but will throw in the 4-seamer and change. He is in the top 36% for fastball spin rate.
Oh yeah, did you know this about Cease and his streak against the Tigers?
Dylan Cease is 7-0 with a 1.91 ERA (9 ER/42.1 IP), 47 strikeouts and a .224 (36-161) opponents average in seven career starts against the Tigers.

Aiming for his eighth win against Detroit, the above lineup looks to help him get the job done. Brian Goodwin makes his White Sox debut this afternoon, batting second and playing center field.
