Holy cow, it’s a White Sox winner! Chicago avoids the sweep from the Seattle Mariners with solid pitching and production from the core!
The Starters
In a bullpen game, Ryan Burr earned the start. In his two innings of work in a seven-inning game, Burr struck out two batters and gave up nothing else. Efficient.
His 27 pitches (4.5 pitches per out, on average ) looked like this:
Robert Dugger, a starter, turned the game into an early bullpen game for the Mariners. In 2 2⁄3 innings, he gave up three runs (two earned), five hits, and two walks while only striking out two batters.
His 52 pitches (6.5 pitches per out) went like this:
Pressure Play
In the top of the third inning with the bases loaded (all three baserunners took a walk against Garret Crochet), Kyle Seager walked and tallied an RBI in a 3.23 LI play for he and Evan Marshall. It cut the deficit in half for Seattle, to 2-1.
Pressure Cooker
Entering with the bases loaded, Evan Marshall (3.24 pLI) surrendered a walk, but left the game with the Sox still leading, 2-1.
Top Play
Let’s hope Yermín Mercedes has found the light at the end of his slump tunnel. With the bases loaded during the bottom of the first, he lined a two-run double to left (.152 WPA), which opened up the scoring, 2-0!
Top Performer
Of course, Mercedes earns tonight’s top performer honors! His .231 WPA should help end this slump at the plate and reignite the engine to go the distance!
Smackdown
Hardest hit: Zack Collins’ bases-clearing double in the fourth was scorched at 109.9 mph!
Weakest contact: Ryan Burr induced Jake Bauers into a 44.3 mph ground out in the second inning.
Luckiest hit: Yermín Mercedes’ 58.1 mph, .180 xBA RBI single in the fourth was this early evening game’s luckiest hit.
Toughest out: Against Codi Heuer in the sixth, Jake Bauers lined out on a baseball that is a hit 64% of the time.
Longest hit: With one out in the ninth, Mitch Haniger (possible future South Sider!) sent a ball 392 feet to left-center field, trimming the White Sox lead to 7-5 and forcing Liam Hendriks into the game.
Magic Number: 1
For his first assist of the 2021 season (after two in 2020), Luis González nailed Kyle Seager at the plate for the third out of the sixth inning to keep the score at 7-2.

South Side Sox Roll Call
A lot of spirit for the nightcap, squeezing 184 comments into a six-and-a-half innings. Well, winning makes commenting more fun, yeah. Trooper Galactus, in possibly (?) a first, takes the honors.
