Meet the Players: Dick Reillo

Dick Reillo is a lifelong resident of Northwest Indiana. His Chicago White Sox Internet claim to fame is moderating the chi_white_sox LiveJournal community with fellow SSS member Janice Scurio back in the mid-2000s.

He once owned a personalized Brandon McCarthy shirsey — and an official Josh Fields one.

Dick loves to blend the world of wrestling with the White Sox and usually does so with semi-adequate, phone-app photoshop. And we’re really looking forward to seeing what he comes up with for South Side Sox.

You can also follow his White Sox spicy and visual takes on Twitter @SavesTuesday.

Enjoy his introductory podcast, also available today.

Please give Dick a warm welcome, SSS!

Hometown East Chicago, Ind., home of Cleveland (and White Sox legend) Kenny Lofton

White Sox fan since I’m one of those “as long as I can remember” fans. I’m the baby of three boys. The oldest and I are Sox fans, while of course the middle brother is a Cubs fan. My mother and father are both Sox fans, however, their original allegiances are with the Yankees and A’s, respectively.

First White Sox memory I went on a trip with my Little League team in the early 1990’s (I want to say it was 1992) to Comiskey to watch a game. My mother bought me one of those team-signed baseballs. I think it was only last year that I finally put it together that the players really didn’t sign all those souvenir baseballs. I felt like I just found out the truth about Santa.

Favorite White Sox memory If this was before the 2021 season, I would have said seeing Mark Buehrle’s no-hitter against Texas. That distinction now goes to seeing Carlos Rodón’s no-hitter in April. It was my first game back in the ballpark after being away all of 2020, and what a way to welcome me back. I also shared the game with some pretty cool company.

Favorite White Sox player Robin Ventura will always be my No. 1, although my love for Brandon McCarthy has been pretty well-documented on various forms of social media since 2005.

Next White Sox statue I need a Mark Buehrle hands-on-his-head after his perfect game statue now!

Go-to concession food at Sox Park I’m a pretty simple man, so I head right for the Buona Beef, or decide to feel like a kid again and grab some chicken strips and fries. I’m basic.

Favorite Baseball Movie A League of Their Own is hands-down my favorite baseball movie. The Tom Hanks quotes are legendary, the baseball scenes are thrilling and that closing Madonna song still gets me in my feels.

South Side Sox on the Field I was a catcher in my youth, but I love destroying my body Aaron Rowand-style on the field. So I’m taking left field. I’m not afraid to dive and get dirty.

True or false: Every jumbled pile of person has a thinking part that wonders what the part that isn’t thinking isn’t thinking of. Hmm. Your ideas are intriguing to me, and I wish to subscribe to your newsletter.
