The White Sox continue a string of college pitcher draft picks with the University of Arizona’s Gil Luna.
In his 2021 season for the Wildcats, Luna posted a 1.69 ERA in 21 1⁄3 innings. Luna pitched all 21 1⁄3 innings out of the bullpen, in 14 outings. At 5´10´´ and weighing 173 pounds, Luna is one of the more undersized prospects in the 2021 draft class.
Luna is described as a bullpen arm. He uses a fastball and curveball as his main two pitches. The MLB Network panel describes Luna as having good arm strength and good movement on his 12-6 curveball. Luna steadily improved his command over the course of the 2021 NCAA season.
Here is a look at Luna’s array of pitches from his freshman year with Arizona:

As mentioned on the MLB broadcast, Luna came out of high school as a heavy strikeout pitcher. His 31 total strikeouts in 2021 put his K/9 rate at 13.08.
The White Sox have the 305th overall pick in the 10th round.
