White Sox Select Haylen Green in the 20th round (605th overall)

Green, a lefty reliever, ended his college career as the TCU closer.

Haylen Green is the final pick of the draft for the White Sox, a lefty reliever out of TCU.

He did start a few games over his career, but the vast majority of his 88 games pitched came in relief. Over his career, he had a 3.36 ERA, the best coming in a limited freshman year. In 168 23 innings, he had 176 strikeouts, which is a good number, and he only walked 50 batters.

His last season at TCU was probably his best. He became the closer and had 12 saves with a 3.33 ERA and a WHIP under 1.000. He had a 10.2 K/9, second best of his college career, but a 0.9 BB/9, which is five walks in 48 23 innings. Not too shabby, but hopefully some of that command rubs off on White Sox pitchers picked yesterday.

He has a funky delivery. It looks like it is in between sidearm and over the top and comes off the mound way to the left.

Well, that’s it. Make sure to read all about each draft pick on SSS — all 20!
