The ACL Sox had a lead for most of the game, but the bullpen faltered late for the loss.
First off though, the top two draft picks had great days. Wes Kath hit a home run, the first of his professional career. He added a single earlier in the game, too. Meanwhile, Colson Montgomery came away with a couple of hits, both singles.
Honestly, those two guys doing well is a big part of the success for this team. Some other guys did do some good things too, though.
Tommy Sommer, 2021’s 10th-rounder, started the game and went three innings. He did not allow a run and struck out three. John Ray and Noah Owen, more 2021 draft picks, replaced Sommer with a shutout inning each. Maybe it really was just a 2021 draft pick type of day.

Sloppy defense, bad pitching, and really just average offense gets you a typical DSL game for the Sox. Both teams got/gave up quite a few walks. In all, there were 14 walks and then 14 hits, so the pitching was not great. But both teams were a combined 3-for-24 with runners in scoring position and left 19 runners on base. They combined for five errors as well, just to put the icing on top of the ugly cake.
With that being said, there were a couple outliers on this dreadful game. Fernando Vargas hit his first professional homer today, while Victor Quezada had a double and a walk. The DSL Sox had five hitters reach base twice today. On the other side with the pitching, it was mostly bad, but Francisco Benitez was fine over four outs. One run did score on his watch but it was due to an error; other than that, he did not have an earned run and only allowed on hit.
