Before we get into previewing tonight’s game between the Chicago White Sox and the visiting Oakland Athletics, everyone at South Side Sox would like to reiterate our fervent support and well wishes to the Oakland’s All-Star pitcher, Chris Bassitt, who was hospitalized after being hit in the face with a line drive in last night’s game. May his recovery be swift and full.

Although these guys are professionals, it would be reasonable to believe that it may require additional effort to put themselves in a good head space after such an emotional event. Thankfully, they will be treated to a beautiful night to play baseball on Chicago’s South Side. My Dark Sky app tells me it’ll be warm and humid — perfect weather to see some dingers.
And, well, I had a whole write-up on the probable pitcher, Cole Irvin, but a few hours ago, the A’s made a change and will now send out Paul Blackburn. According the the pre-game show on NBCSChicago, his ERA is 27.00 - so, I mean, let’s do it.
Here’s how the A’s are lining up:

Lance Lynn (10-3, 2.26 ERA), who is currently in the Top 3 favorites to win the American League Cy Young, will make his first start for the White Sox since his no-decision at the Field of Dreams game. Manager Tony La Russa is sending out a pretty standard lineup tonight, save for the fact that Andrew Vaughn will get some rest in favor of Jake Lamb in left field.
Lance Lynn is 3-0 with a 2.45 ERA (12 ER/44.0 IP), 51 strikeouts and a .207 (34-164) opponents average in his last eight starts.
