South Side Sox 2021 Player of the Week (ending August 21): Tim Anderson

Can the tough-talking high school basketball star from Tuscaloosa become the face of Major League Baseball? Some say he already is.

Tim Anderson’s contributions to the White Sox success have already registered somewhere on the Richter Scale.

His stick-it-to-the-man leadership and electric energy have rocketed the team to thrilling and historic heights, and taken an ever-growing fan base along with it. Magic moments seem to follow Anderson like thunder follows lightning.

Ten days ago, the stage was set in rural Iowa, when a ninth-inning opportunity came knocking, and Anderson saved the day in walk-off fashion, in front of a national audience.

This past week, the moment came in Florida. In extra innings and with momentum faltering, TA7 came through again, putting the Sox ahead with another clutch swing and sending the go-ahead run home in an eventual 7-5 victory.

All told, Anderson is batting .343 in his last seven games, with 12 hits and seven RBIs. He’s got the swagger of a champion, and the talent to back it up. It makes for good TV.

And a time where MLB is seeking desperately to expand its audience, TA7 has found the role he was born to play.

Baseball nation is taking notice.
