White Sox Minor League Update August 23, 2021

Both rookie league teams lose close games, with offense doing well in Arizona and the hurlers doing their thing in the Dominican

Wes Kath had a two-hit day, and continues his good play since he was drafted.

A late-game rally was not able to put the ACL Sox on top, as they fell, 7-6. Five of those runs came in the final two innings, as the offense finally got into a groove. In all, seven batters in the lineup collected hits, including some big names. The 2021 top draft picks, Wes Kath and Colson Montgomery, both did well: Kath had two singles, while Montgomery hit his third professional double. Along with Kath, Wilfred Veras and Logan Glass both came away with two hits. Victor Torres led the team, with three hits on the night.

Over on the pitching end, it was not stellar, to say the least. Each pitcher used in the game saw a run cross the plate, only Everhett Hazelwood did not have an earned run. Tommy Sommer (10th round selection this July) had been doing pretty well in the early going, but he struggled a bit today with two walks in four innings and a homer allowed in the third inning. It really got off the rails with Jacob Gilliland in the sixth inning; he allowed three runs and could not get out of the inning.

A pitchers duel that went to extras leads to a loss for the DSL Sox. Somehow, the team came away with 10 hits but only one run scored. They also had four hits with runners in scoring position, and still only scored one run, all in all an extremely odd offensive performance. Alvaro Aguero led the way on offense with three hits, the only extra-base hit, and he even added a stolen base on top of that. On the pitching side, the game was very good. There were no earned runs allowed with four pitchers used. Gabriel Rodríguez started the game, and went four innings with seven strikeouts. The other guy that did very well was Carlos Hinestroza. Though he did blow the save due to an error, he went three innings with three strikeouts. They deserved the win — the pitchers, that is — but some funky offense could not get runners on base to home.
