The ACL Sox could not get the offense going today, with just two runs despite walking seven times on the day. The lineup only came away with four hits, each of them singles. Colson Montgomery had one of those hits in an overall good night at the plate, as he also walked twice. Benyamín Bailey and Terrell Tatum were the other two to reach base at least twice, while Wes Kath went hitless.
Tommy Sommer got the start and kept the fantastic beginning to his pro career going. The 10th round selection had four hitless innings to lower his WHIP to 0.65 in 17 innings. It was the bullpen that struggled, with Everhett Hazelwood having a rare poor appearance and Christian Edwards allowing two runs in four outs. Down 4-0 heading into the ninth is difficult to come back from, and the Sox only could get back two runs.

The DSL White Sox got the win, with Norge Vera throwing a couple of perfect innings. So far in Vera’s 5 2⁄3 innings pitched in 2021, he has not allowed a hit, let alone a run. Today was more of the same with his longest outing of the season, two innings. Vera struck out three as well, and set the tone for the rest of the pitching staff. Manuel Veloz was the bulk innings guy, and continued the DSL shutout up until the eighth inning. Veloz went six innings and struck out five, to lower his ERA to 3.38. The last inning, trying to get the save with a three-run lead, was the more exciting part of the game for the DSL Sox pitching. Both runs allowed came in the inning, and it took Jorge Ferrer to come in to save the game and get Francisco Benitez (who allowed both of those runs) off the hook.
The hitting was not good, per se, but it did enough for the win. Five batters collected six hits, along with four walks. Arxy Hernández led the team in hits, and was able to hit his first professional home run of his career.
