South Side Sox 2021 Player of the Week (ending August 6): Brian Goodwin

Walk-off magic aside, B Good is a welcome ingredient in the White Sox melting pot

Brian Goodwin has worn five uniforms during his six-year career in the majors, but he seems to have found a home in the black, white, and silver of our Chicago White Sox.

Does Goodwin fit with the Chicago mentality? Absolutely. This can be a rough-and-tumble place, but also a melting pot of ideas and experiences. The streets are full to bursting of all colors and creeds, and the home dugout at 35th and Shields is no exception. It’s an international mix of personalities, all bouncing off each other and motivating each other.

And with the Sox up 10 games in the Central, it’s clearly a recipe that works.

Goodwin, who was added to the White Sox roster following outfielder Luis Robert’s injury, has come through in a big way.

“This is the most fun season that I’ve ever had,” says the North Carolina native, and he’s demonstrated that with a pantheon of clutch plays.

His walk-off torpedo last week (and the world-record bat flip that followed) made headlines, and Goodwin seized the day with an extra-innings dinger to put the Cubs in their place last Friday.

The heroics of White Sox reserve players cannot be understated. Standing beside the ferocious White Sox bullpen, B-Good has helped carry this team through the middle third of the season, and rightly won the hearts of many Sox fans. Let’s hope that he’s found a home for good.
