Walk-offs, a no-hitter, and a division championship.
The White Sox and the soon-to-be Cleveland Guardians have shared some dramatic moments this season. It all came to a head last week, with the Sox desperate to end a month of agonizing anticipation. Since the All-Star Game, the Central Division title has dangled in front of the Pale Hose like a carrot on a string.
Enter Tim Anderson, in dramatic fashion, to set the tone.
With the chilly Lake Erie winds gusting out of the west, TA7 jumped on starter Aaron Civale’s third pitch and sailed it out to the bleachers, his first homer since August 20. An inning later, he launched a three-run shot, making it Anderson’s first two-homer game since September 19 of last year.
That second blast came atop another pair of homers, from Eloy Jiménez and Luis Robert, who toyed with Cleveland’s Civale like cats playing with a mouse.
It’s often been feast or famine with the White Sox offense, but the clincher game ranked among the former for the team, who are 40-6 on the season when hitting multiple home runs.
Tim Anderson reminds us yet again that this team is chock-full of players who live for big moments. The prospect of a home playoff game, with energy radiating from the stands and bats held back at the ready, is thrilling.
October here we come.
