A good all-around performance helped the ACL White Sox just get by for just their 19th win of the season. Eight of the nine batters in the lineup had a hit, including Colson Montgomery, Wes Kath, and Benyamín Bailey. Kath’s hit was his first triple as a pro, and Logan Glass also had a three-bagger as one of his team-leading two hits. To cap it off, Nick Thornquist hit his first career homer to give the Sox a 3-1 lead.
Tommy Summer started the game and really set the tone for the team — by the time he left after the fourth inning, he had a 2-0 lead. He had the strikeouts going, with six in just four innings to help him lower his ERA to 1.71. For the most part, the bullpen kept pitching well to secure the win. That included Gil Luna Jr, the ninth-round selection this summer, who recorded his second save and has not allowed a run in his first nine innings.

This was a one-run game that only went seven innings, so maybe the DSL Sox would have won if it was a full game? Well, maybe, but they fell short today in seven, mostly because of the offense. Yes, five runs looks like a lot, but they only had three hits. And though five walks are a lot, eight base runners really isn’t that much. Alvaro Aguero accounted for two of the three hits, including a double.
The pitching staff was worse than the offense. The DSL ran out four pitchers, and three allowed at least one run. Miguel Toribio was the only pitcher to not allow a run, with a shutout inning. Carlos Hinestroza came in to close out a win, but he and the defense blew the two-run lead.
