Talking to Buddy Bell on the South Side Sox podcast last month, he told us about the somewhat unusual time-share arrangement at the top of the order. In order to get Tim Anderson and Jacob May accustomed to the leadoff role, they would alternate batting first every two weeks or so, with the other player hitting second.
A month into their first stints at Double-A, both are handling the task well in terms of their overall line:
- Anderson: .309/.320/.381, 3 2B, 2 3B, 0 HR, 1 BB, 19 K, 11/15 SB
- May: .337/.378/.424, 8 2B, 0 3B, 0 HR, 6 BB, 23 K, 10/13 SB
And both are doing more damage out of the leadoff spot.
-
Anderson: .331/.328/.411 over 13 games
- May: .375/.390/.450, 1 BB, 9 K over 10 games
The strikeout-to-walk ratios need work, but time is on their side. Anderson's 21, and while May is two years older, he's done everything right on his climb so far.
Sunday's box scores will appear below shortly.
