Lucas Giolito underwhelmed, but Dane Dunning made up for it

NCAA Baseball: College World Series-Florida vs Virginia

It’s been a rough week for first-round pitching prospects around baseball. On Wednesday, the Rockies announced Mike Nikorak (selected 24th overall in 2015) needed Tommy John surgery. Then on Thursday, the Yankees did the same with James Kaprielian (No. 16 pick in 2015).

And if that wasn’t enough, Rays pitching prospect Taylor Guerrieri (24th overall in 2011) left tonight’s game against Charlotte with an elbow issue.

This is a way of saying that Lucas Giolito wasn’t all that bad. His velocity was 92-94 early, and 91-92 later, since it was a topic of debate before. I’ll have a post about his first two starts Friday morning.
