I’m in Charlotte, watching the Knights lay waste to the Norfolk Tides pitching staff with six homers, including a grand slam from Danny Hayes (see above). Be prepared for a few posts over the next week. Meanwhile, Michael Kopech’s line made me laugh out loud.

Top prospects at a glance

  • Yoan Moncada: 1-for-5, HR.
  • Lucas Giolito: 4.1 IP, 6 H, 5 R, 3 ER, 2 BB, 4 K, 3 HBPs.
  • Michael Kopech: 4.1 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 10 K, 1 HR, 1 HBP
  • Luis Alexander Basabe: 0-for-4, BB, SB.
  • Zack Collins: 1-for-3, HR, BB, 2 K, PO.
  • Dane Dunning: 6 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 8 K.

Charlotte 15, Norfolk 5

  • Adam Engel went 1-for-5 with two strikeouts (both looking on full counts; he didn’t care for the calls).
  • Yoan Moncada went 1-for-5 with his first Charlotte homer.
  • Willy Garcia was 3-for-4 with a homer and a walk.
  • Nicky Delmonico was a double short of the cycle on a 3-for-4 night. He also walked.
  • Danny Hayes went 3-for-5 with a grand slam and a two-run shot. He struck out once.
  • Lucas Giolito: 4.1 IP, 6 H, 5 R, 4 ER, 2 BB, 4 K. He looked good through three, but told me that he stopped finishing his pitches as the count piled up, resulting in three HBPs. Fastball was in the low 90s.
