Micker Adolfo extended his hitting streak to 12 games with a 2-for-4 performance in Kannapolis’ win over Augusta on Wednesday. Over this stretch, he’s hitting .396/.453/.604 with three walks (and two HBPs) to 10 strikeouts.
It’s easy to forget that Adolfo is just 20 years old. If it seems like he’s been around forever, it’s because he made his debut at 17, one year after the White Sox signed him for $1.6 million. Experience-wise, he’s somewhere between those two ages. Tuesday was just his 162nd career game, as injuries cost him almost all of 2015 and parts of 2016.
Eric Longenhagen at FanGraphs sounds skeptical that any major corner has been turned (h/t Secret Chimp)...
After spending parts of three seasons in the AZL due to injuries and strikeout issues, Adolfo is back in full season ball at Low-A Kannapolis and hitting .310/.375/.437 after hitting .219 in 65 games there last year. Adolfo is striking out at a 23% clip this season which is down from 32% last year but the scouting reports regarding Adolfo’s expansive, noisy approach are the same. He has prodigious physical tools but still requires significant polish on the offensive side.
... but putting the bat on A-ball pitching means there might be actually something to polish.
