Trey Michalczewski has discovered a way to hit homers at Birmingham

In his first 104 games and 392 plate appearances at Regions Field in Birmingham, Trey Michalczewski hit a total of three homers.

Since returning from a few weeks at Winston-Salem, Michalczewski has played in eight games at the Barons’ home park, and he’s hit two homers, including one on Saturday night.

Michalczewski spent May 19 to June 9 with the Dash, and he seemed to find his power stroke during that time.

  • 2016 at Birmingham: .226/.314/.363 over 557 PA
  • 2017 before demotion: .210/.322/.306 over 174 PA
  • 2017 at Winston-Salem: .294/.342/.559 over 76 PA
  • 2017 after Winston-Salem: .276/.333/.483 over 33 PA (all at home)

He’s still just 22 years old, and while his up-and-down career makes him seem older, time is still on his side (this is the argument for drafting high school players). Matt Davidson’s recent ability to provide more "all" to his "nothing" and provide a legit next-man-up in the even of a Todd Frazier trade allows everybody to be even more patient.
