Following up on Saturday’s minor league update, the White Sox did announce the signing of 16-year-old Jefferson Mendoza, a 6-foot, 170-pound catcher out of Venezuela. From the press release:
"Jefferson is a plus defensive catcher with an excellent frame for the position," said Marco Paddy, special assistant to the general manager, international operations. "His abilities to handle a pitching staff and call a game should help him develop quickly."
Baseball America also reported the signing of Dominican shortstop Sydney Pimentel for $300,000, which is the most they can throw at any individual international prospect after going into the penalty zone to sign Luis Robert.
