With the trade deadline likely cutting off the flow of upper-echelon prospects between teams until the winter, John Manuel from Baseball America ranked the notable prospects that moved.
It seemed like the White Sox had more success than other teams in yoinking their best farm products, and this ranking more or less verifies that. The top four:
- Eloy Jimenez
- Blake Rutherford
- Willie Calhoun (Dodgers to Rangers in Yu Darvish trade)
- Dylan Cease
For what it’s worth, the A’s occupied spots 5-7-8 for the return in the Sonny Gray trade.
When the material for ranking actual prospects peters out, Manuel shifts gears to putting best-case scenarios on the lesser players in the deal.
